We have a room to let in our Victorian terraced house in Chiswick. We are Becky and Dan, friends who have shared this wonderful home for the past three years. We are both in our late-20s and are looking for someone who will be sociable as well as clean(ish) and easy to get along with. The previous occupant of the available room has recently left to get married. The wedding was a blast.

LIVING ROOM. Nice shared living space with Smart TV, DVD player, stereo and a dangerously comfy sofa. We will interview prospective tenants in this room and when it comes to your turn you will note that Dan is almost certainly gay and that Becky bears more than a passing resemblance to the first girl who broke your heart. Two months after you move in you will try to kiss her while drunk on this sofa but make such a hash of it that she will remain oblivious to your advances.

BATHROOM. Recently refurbished with roll-top bath and power shower. Four months into your tenancy you will find yourself reading the back of Becky’s shampoo bottles in the false hope that this will somehow bring you closer to her.

KITCHEN/DINER. Small but well equipped with dishwasher, gas oven and hob, fridge-freezer, toaster, microwave. It is here where, during an argument about her using your milk, you will notice how Becky’s neck flushes red when she is angry and wonder if the same happens when she is aroused.

BEDROOM. Yours would be the smallest bedroom in the house but it does have the best view of the nearby woodland. You will not realise, at first, quite how thin the walls are until you lay awake three nights in a row listening to Becky’s soft moans and the deep, sonorous voice of her new lover. This will be one week before you leave.

RENT: £200 per week.
DEPOSIT: Four weeks’ rent
BILLS: All included with the exception of broadband which we split between us.
AVAILABLE: Immediately.
